Healthy Schools Initiative

he Traverse City Track Club Healthy Schools – Run to Fitness initiative encourages elementary aged school kids from the area to participate in Fun Runs to earn a chance to win a grant to support their school’s physical education program.  Schools with the most registered student participants are eligible for the Healthy School Award, a monetary donation (up to five awards at $250 each) to the school’s physical education department to support running and walking-based programming.

Kids Fun Runs (1-mile, non-timed runs) included in this program are The National Cherry Festival’s Cherry Kids Fun Run in July, and TCTC events including the Bayshore in May, Frozen Foot in January, Farmland in December and Remembrance Run in October.

In addition to a ceremonial presentation of the Healthy Schools – Run to Fitness monetary award, winning schools will receive a Run for Fun and Fitness presentation for the student body and staff – a high energy walking and running clinic presented by the Traverse City Track Club.  The fun and lively presentation focuses on being active, good running form, and healthy lifestyle habits.  Schools will also receive a recognition award, and prizes from Fun Run partners.
